Toei Animation Company, Ltd. (東映アニメーション株式会社, Tōei Animēshon Kabushiki-gaisha) is a Japanese animation studio owned by Toei Company, Ltd. The studio was founded in 1948 as Japan Animated Films (日本動画映画, Nihon Dōga Eiga, often shortened to 日動映画 Nichidō Eiga).
In 1956, Toei purchased the studio and it was reincorporated under its current name.
From past to present, The studio is known for anime projects and manga adaptations such as, GeGeGe no Kitaro, Mazinger series (until later incarnations), Getter Robo, Cutie Honey (the Re:CH Series is co-produced by Gainax), Chojin Sentai Barattack, Danguard Ace, Captain Harlock (yeah, even the 2013 CGI film), Dr. Slump, GoLion/Voltron, Kinnikuman, Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z/Z Kai, Dragon Ball GT, Transformers: Headmasters, Transformers: Super-God Masterforce, Transformers: Victory, Sailor Moon, Yu-Gi-Oh! Season 0, One Piece, Digimon, Ojamajo Do-Re-Mi, Air Master, Air Gear, Pretty Cure, Beet the Vandel Buster, Powerpuff Girls Z (with Cartoon Network and Aniplex), Lovely Complex, Toriko, RoboDz Kazagumo Hen (with Disney), Tanken Driland, Kyousogiga, Robot Girls Z and the upcoming Marvel Disk Wars: The Avengers (again, with Disney and Marvel), Expelled from Paradise (with Graphinica) and Buddha amongst others.
Toei also worked with American productions such as Transformers G-1, Strawberry Shortcake, Jem, Halo Legends, etc.
For the Harmony Unleashed franchise and production committee, Toei Animation is part of the team as the studio will handle the Japanese version of Harmony Unleashed: Uprising as they provided the Japanese dub and the Japan-exclusive openings and endings co-produced by Madhouse.
Also, the studio will team up with Ordet to produce the Pony Shojo Sentai Harmony VI anime series based on the Pegasister Rangers, directed by Kenichi Imaizumi and Yutaka Yamamoto.
Fun fact: They worked alongside Korean animation studio AKOM for the position of Overseas Animation for My Little Pony in the first generation (G1, And friends, Tales)
